AS Monaco has announced that striker Stefan Mitrović will be out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury. The Serbian international, who joined the club in January on loan from Serie A side Udinese, had been in fine form for the Principality outfit and had scored five goals in his seven appearances this term. However, he was forced off during Saturday's Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain due to the injury and will now undergo further scans to determine the extent of the problem. AS Monaco manager Lucien Favre confirmed the news on Monday, saying: "Stefan is out for the rest of the season." Mitrović's departure means that the club's top scorer, Loic Remy, will have to step up his efforts even more in the final few weeks of the campaign. But despite the setback, the club remains hopeful of securing a place in Europe next season, with a strong finish to the league remaining their main goal. Favre added: "We'll try to secure our position in Europe as soon as possible. We're working hard to achieve that." |
